Sweet Home Chicago, the Illawarra’s own 13-piece Blues Brothers show, have made a huge impact on the local music scene since their official launch earlier this year.
Audiences have been raving about the show’s production quality, including a dynamic brass section, sensational backing vocal ensemble and tight rhythm section that complement front-men Dave Quin (Jake) and Colin Hardcastle (Elwood).
The engine room is led by the talented drummer Frank Garcia (The Blue Rays, Covershot, Different Beautiful), guitarist Cary Buecher (Kama Sutra, Alan Barnes band, 3 o’clock Sunset, Firefly), with keyboardist Shane Elliott (The Blue Rays, Sidewalk Shuffle, Monkey’s Uncle, Black Diamond Blues) and Taylor himself on the bass guitar.
The talented horn section comprises Neil Lendrum (Short & Horny, EROS big band, She Makes Pop), Emma Kelly (Sound of KoKo, Pearlnoire, Emma Kelly Trio) and Grant Merinuk (Straight no Chaser, Sound of KoKo) alongside backing vocalists Ronda Moon, Sharon Scott, Jackie Bennett and Sonia Noakes
This month the group are hosting a special ‘Christmas in July Extravaganza’ dinner show at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach. Band manager Neil Taylor’s inspiration has been to raise funds for the local KidzWish Foundation.
“Numerous children in our community have benefited from various KidzWish programs over the years, and we are excited to be specifically supporting their music and dance program on this occasion” said Mr Taylor.
The evening starts at 6.30pm and includes canapés and background music from local duo ‘Roses in Hand’. A three-course dinner will follow with drinks.
Tickets are $150 per person with auctions, raffles and merchandise on the night. Tickets are still available for Saturday, July 29 through www.trybooking.com/273321 or www.sweethomechicago.com.au or contact Neil Taylor on 0437765955.
