KidzWish child ambassadors, event founder Michael Hamilton and event sponsors gathered at The Scarborough Hotel to launch its annual charity walk.
KidzWish marketing manager Karouna Micheal thanked the sponsors and those that have already registered for The Scarborough Hotel KidzWish Bridge2Bridge, now in its 7th year, for supporting KidzWish.
“As an Illawarra charity raising funds for the sole purpose to help local children and their families, it can be very difficult at times to get donations to fund our programs, which is why it is so important for us to receive support from the community and businesses,” he said.
Since founded KidzWish has helped over 50,000 Illawarra children.
“For all children who are sick, disadvantaged or have a disability and your families we want to let them know KidzWish is here for them. Those who choose to attend events like this and to those who give to KidzWish ... they help us create on average 9 smiles a day,” Mr Micheal said.
“The Scarborough Hotel KidzWish Bridge2Bridge challenge is a 40+km event. The challenge is to get from Sea Cliff Bridge to Windang Bridge or just do part of the course – people can customize their course. This year participants can either walk or run.”
Cost includes a Bridge2Bridge singlet and a donation to KidzWish. The challenge will happen on Sunday 17 February. Family fun day at Club Windang from 2pm with children's entertainment, a jumping castle and a BBQ for lunch.
Hundreds of people have participated in the annual event, and organisers hoped to exceed 300 walkers in 2019.
The Scarborough Hotel Marketing & Events Penny Anzani said sadly not everyone can reach theirs, but we can try and get there together, especially if that dream belongs to a child from KidzWish.
“No matter how we give, or how much we give, our contribution of time or money will make a difference. As a business owner, I feel we have more of an obligation to give back to the community. This can be achieved through direct donation or through organising our own fund and awareness raising events,” she said.
KidzWish’s vision is to help Illawarra & South Coast children who are sick, disadvantaged or have a disability and their families so they’ll never walk alone. With support they can help them with Support Programs, Love Programs & Laughter Programs. 100% of profits from this event will help fund these KidzWish Programs.
